Enfermedad de Chagas y gestación

Chagas’ disease can be transmitted through vertical transmission and breast feeding in non-endemic areas. Migration is spreading new diseases in these areas, which may have diagnostic and therapeutic implications in pregnancy. The main effects in newborns reported in the literature are prematurity, low birth weight, and low Apgar score. Placental involvement does not imply fetal disease in all cases. Treatment must be postponed until the end of pregnancy due to the possibility of teratogenic effects.
