Discussion of Depression Diagnosis and Treatment Based on Sanjiao Theory

The cause of depression is internal emotional injury,which is closely related to the Liver,Spleen,and Heart,and also related to Lung and Kidney.Its major pathogenesis is the stagnation of the Qi movement.The early stage of depression usually starts from lower Jiao,which is related to the Liver and Kidney.In the later stage,it involving the spleen and stomach in middle Jiao,with the prolonging and non-healing course,it will eventually invade the Heart and Lungs in upper Jiao,and it has a general pattern of transmission.The location,pathogenesis,and symptoms of depression are different in its early,middle,and late stages,so does its treatment.According to the diseases course and the physiological characteristics of San Jiao,it is proposed that the lower Jiao should be soothed,and treating the Liver and Kidney at the same time,the middle Jiao should be adjusted,soothing the Liver and strengthening the Spleen,and the Upper Jiao should be reinforced,treating Sanjiao together.At the same time,due to disorder of Qi movement,syndromes of the stagnation of Qi and Blood stasis,phlegm accumulation caused by Qi blockage,stagnated Qi transforming into fire,and impairment of Fluid and distribution of mind during the transformation of depression should be treated according to the syndrome.
