| Abstract: | The concentration of serum hyaluronic acid was detected by radioimmunoassay in 110 hospitalized patients suffering from liver trouble, 26 patients with other diseases than liver diseases, and 26 normal adults. The change of serum hyaluronic acid, albumin level and aminotranferase activities were also observed in 14 cases with liver diseases. The results showed that serum hyaluronic acid concentration increased significantly in all cases with liver diseases. The increase of hyaluronic acid concertration persisted in over time in clinical stages of liver cirrhosis and chronic active hepatitis. And there was a close corelation between serum hyaluronic acid level, albumin and aminotranferase activities but not to serum markers of hepatitis B virus. The present data suggested that serum hyaluronic acid is a useful and sensetive biochemical marker for the diagnosis of liver cirrhosis and for. the distinction between chronic active hepatitis and chronic persistent hepatitis. |
