Abstract: | Whole blood viscosity of patients withleukemic leukocytosis was compared tothat of normals with a similar totalpacked cell volume (TPCV). Leukocytesin suspension were also studied andfound to have a greater viscosity thanerythrocytes. We found no relation between the magnitude of the leukocytecount and whole blood viscosity. Thepresence of anemia in the patients withleukemia prevented elevation of theirTPCV. This, as well as the normal variability of blood viscosity obscured anyincrease that could have been producedby the greater viscosity of massed leukocytes.
