Development of Self-Rating Competency Scale for nurses in stroke center and test on reliability and va-lidity

Objective To develop the Self-Rating Competency Scale for nurses in stroke center and provide measurement tools for evaluating competency level of nurses in stroke center.Method Form the item pool of competency level for nurses in stroke center through literature analysis,semi-structured interview and concept definition,guided by competency theory.Develop the first draft after two rounds of Delphi expert consultation.Analyze the items by pre-investigation and formal investigation and test its reliability and validity.Result The Self-Rating Competency Scale for nurses in stroke center includes 4 dimensions of theoretical knowledge,operating skill,comprehensive ability,personal characteristics and motivation,with totally 78 items.The Cronbach’sαcoefficient is 0.988 and the half reliability is 0.925 for the total scale.The item-level content validity index is 0.833~1.000.The scale-level content validity index/universal agreement is 0.936 and the scale-level content validity index/average is 0.989.Make exploratory factor analysis on 4 dimensions of the scale and extract 1,6,2 and 1 common factors respectively.The accumulated variance contribution rates are all above 66%.Conclusion The Self-Rating Competency Scale for nurses in stroke center has nice reliability and validity,which can be the measurement tool for self-rating competency for nurses in stroke center.
