Strengthening Intercommunion between Medical Personnel and MSM to Improve Medical Services

Objective To identify the knowledge about the men who have sex with men (MSM) among health workers and make the recommendations on improve health services in STD/AIDS for them. Methods Health workers were interviewed in order to know their acquaintance of MSM and the knowledge concerning their abilities to carry out services. Results It was found in 2004 that health workers were lacking the knowledge of the MSM, even quite ignorant of the existence of this population; therefore, they know little about the need of MSM. There were discrimination against MSM and fear of them among health workers. It was associated with the fact that they would not like to perform STD/HIV/AIDS prevention and care for MSM. Conclusion The findings demonstrate that health workers should improve knowledge of MSM and enhance the communication with them to establish the basis of improvement for STD/HIV/AIDS control and prevention.
