Comparative Study on the Risk Dysglycemia of Fluoroquinolones

Objective:To study the effect of using of broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone(ciprofloxacin,levofloxacin,moxifloxacin)on the dysglycemica(hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia)in diabetic and nondiabetic patients.Methods:By retrospective analysis method,choosing to intravenous broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone drugs(ciprofloxacin,levofloxacin,moxifloxacin)treatment of hospitalized patients fromJune 2014 to June 2016,A total of 744 patients received,134 patients with diabetes.Logistic regression was used to determine the odds of hypo-and hyperglycemia with the individual fluoroquinolones versus azithromycin.Results:The incidence rates for hyper-and hypoglycemia among ciprofloxacin,levofloxacin,gatifloxacin,were 0.35 and 0.45,0.19 and 0.18,0.10 and 0.12,and 0.07 and 0.10,respectively.The highest odds ratios for hyperglycemia in diabetic and non-diabetic group compared with azithromycin were levofloxacin 4.907(95%CI,1.626~6.805)and 4.749(95%CI,1.583~5.580),while higher risk of hypoglycemia for moxifloxacin,4.796(95%CI,1.529~6.045)and 3.919(95%CI,1.282~5.979).Conclusion:Patients who take quinolones intravenously are at risk for hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia.The adverse reaction of levofloxacin induced hyperglycemia is the most common,and hypoglycemia with moxifloxacin in common.
