The role of ADC and rADC of diffusion weighted imaging in differential diagnosis of benign and malignant breast lesions

Objective To evaluate the role of the apparent diffusion coefficient(ADC)values and relative apparent diffusion coefficient in distinguishing benign from malignant breast lesions.Methods 72 breast lesions,consisting of 41 malignant lesions and 31 benign lesions,which were proved by surgery or biopsy from January 2011 to December,2018,were analysed retrospectively.The ADC values of these lesions were measured,also in normal tissue around,the rADC(lesion ADC/normal tissue around ADC)was calculated.The t-test was used for testing the difference of ADC values between benign and malignant groups,as well as rADC.Threshold of ADC and rADC for differential diagnosis was acquired by ROC analysis.Results The ADC values of benign and malignant lesions were(1.33±0.24)×10^-3 mm²/s and(0.94±0.25)×10^-3 mm²/s(t=-6.755,P<0.001).The rADC values were(0.71±0.12)and(0.50±0.12)(t=-7.389,P<0.001).The thresholds of ADC,rADC were 1.264×10^-3 mm²/s,0.624.The AUC,sensitivity and specificity of ADC and rADC were 0.856,80.5%,80.7%;0.893,85.4%,90.3%.Conclusion ADC values and rADC are of important significance in differentiating benign and malignant breast lesions;especially,rADC values have higher diagnostic accuracy.
