| Abstract: | Pulmonary hypertension(PH)is a pulmonary vascular disease with high mortality,characterized by pulmonary vascular remodeling,which can be caused by endothelial dysfunction.Endothelial progenitor cells(EPCs),as a kind of endothelial precursor cells,play an important role in postnatal angiogenesis and vascular repair.According to their origin,EPCs can be divided into circulating EPCs and resident EPCs.Different types of EPCs have different biological characteristics and play different roles in vascular repair in PH.Transplantation of EPCs has a certain application prospect in the treatment of PH.However,the role of EPCs in the development of PH is still controversial.Moreover,there are contradictions about the results of EPC transplantation in both experimental animals and PH patients.This article briefly introduces the classification and biological characteristics of EPCs and reviews their roles and treatment progress in PH. |
