Abstract:Objective To investigate the antimicrobial activity of ethanol extract from Angelicae dahuricae on acne-associated bacteria,including Propionibacterium acnes,Staphylococcus epidermidis and Staphylococcus aureus.Methods The antimicrobial effect of ethanol extract on the bacterium was observed by growth inhibition test(agar dilution method).The minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC)and minimal bactericidal concentration(MBC)of the extract to Propionibacterium acnes,Staphylococcus epidermidis and Staphylococcus aureus were evaluated by broth microdilution method and agar plate.Results The MIC and MBC of ethanol extract from Angelicae dahuricae to Propionibaeterium acnes ATCC6919 were 50 mg/mL and 100 mg/mL.The MIC and MBC of clindamycin to Propionibacterium acnes ATCC6919 were 0.098μg/mL and 0.195μg/mL respectively.The MIC and MBC of this extract to Staphylococcus epidermidis CMCC(B)26069 were 50 mg/mL and 100 mg/mL.The MIC and MBC of triclosan as the positive control were 6.25μg/mL and 12.5μg/mL.The MIC and MBC of this extract to Staphylococcus aureus ATCC25923 were 12.5 mg/mL and 25 mg/mL.The MIC and MBC of erythromycin were 0.098μg/mL and 0.195μg/mL.The diameter of bacteriostatic ring in test group was correlated with the concentration of extract from Angelica dahuricae(r=1.00,P<0.01).Conclusion The ethanol extract from Angelicae dahuricae has a certain inhibitory effect on acne-associated bacterium in vitro,and this inhibitory effect is related to its concentration.
