| Abstract: | The world's first surgical hospital of liver and gall was founded in Shanghai in 1996. An analysis is here made of the bases and conditions on which a surgical department of liver and gall can be expanded into an independent hospital. It is concluded that human need is the internal motive of such an expansion, scientific progress the external force. The concentration of medical specialists and the available living space provide the necessary conditions. With the support of government policies, the expansion is eventually carried out. |
