The Analysis of Prognosis of 106 Patients with N2-3 Stage Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma and the Preliminary Comment on N Staging System

Objective To analyze the prognosis of N2-3 stage nasopharyngeal carcinoma after chemoradiotherapy,and to discuss the N staging system of nasopharyngeal carcinoma.Methods According to the N staging system nasopharyngeal carcinoma in 2008,106 patients with stage N2-3 nasopharyngeal carcinoma were reevaluated: the ≥6 cm group and the <6 cm group by the size of lymph nodes;the unilateral group and the bilateral group by involvement of lymph invasion;the radiotherapy group and the chemoradiotherapy group by whether combined with chemotherapy,and to summarize the result of different groups.Results The effect in the ≥6 cm group was less than that in <6 cm group(P<0.05);there was no statistically significant difference in the effect between the unilateral group and the bilateral group(P>0.05);the effect in the radiotherapy group was less than that in the chemoradiotherapy group(P<0.05).Conclusion The size of large lymph nodes of nasopharyngeal carcinoma remains to be an important prognostic factor;chemoradiotherapy may affect the clinical significance of unilateral or bilateral lymph node involvement in N staging system.
