Abstract: | Over the last 50 years, Western medicine has generated major improvements for the treatment of malignant diseases. At the same time limitations have become obvious. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), with its functional approach to health and disease, can offer new perspectives for diagnosis and treatment. The diagnostic procedures can be used to evaluate deviations from healthy development. The resulting pharmacological treatment opportunities consciously use the interactions of botanical, mineral and animal products to influence the interactions between the healthy body and the malignant disorder. In this combination, TCM supplies supportive treatment, in addition to the mainly cytotoxic substances of Western medicine. This extended treatment concept is supported by observational studies, but needs confirmation in controlled clinical studies. |
