Research update on the effect of irisin/FNDC5 on metabolism of children and adolescents

Abstract:The metabolic level of children and adolescents is of great significance in the healthy growth and development of children and adolescents. Irisin, as a myokine, was first discovered and named in 2012. Early studies showed that irisin can participate in body metabolism and inhibit the occurrence of obesity. Later studies found that irisin can improve the symptoms of type 2 diabetes mellitus, metabolic syndrome, osteoporosis and other diseases. At the same time, irisin can promote glucose, lipid metabolism and bone metabolism in children and adolescents, and its mechanism is still controversial. In this review, research update regarding the effect of irisin/FNDC5 on metabolism (lipid metabolism, glucose metabolism, bone metabolism) in children and adolescents were summarized in order to provide theoretical reference for researchers in the field of the metabolism of children and adolescents.
