| Abstract: | The plasma level of atrial natriuretic factor (ANF) in 19 patients with cardiomyopathy was investigated and compared with that of patients with rheumatic heart disease as well as normal volunteers. The results showed that the plasma level of ANF was significantly higher in dilated cardiomyopthy patients than in normal volunteers (P<0.01), and had a positive correlation with left atrial diammer and left ventricular diastolic end diammer. We suggest that early and serial determination of plasma level of ANF may be used as a non-invasive parameter to assess the degree of left ventricular impairment, effect of treatment and patient's prognosis in dilated cardiomyopathy. |
