Abstract: | A case of a median suture within the squamous part of the occipital bone is described. This rare variety can be explained by the fact of bilateral anlagen of the supraoccipital and interparietal bones which give rise to the Squama occipitalis. In contrast to previous findings on the unpaired origin of the os supraoccipitale a paired origin of this bone can indeed be demonstrated. The normal development of the Squama occipitalis based on the analysis of 134 human embryos is described in detail. |
