Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of plan-do-check-action (PDCA) cycle management on the im-plementation of hand hygiene in Department of Infectious Diseases. Methods Twenty-nine medical staff members in Department of Infectious Diseases of our hospital were studied, and PDCA cycle management began to be implemented in January 2015. Before and after the implementation, the hygiene compliance, hand hygiene knowledge examination and hand hygiene pass rate were compared. Results After the implementation of the PDCA cycle management, the washing rate for before contact with patients, after contact with patients, after contact with the surrounding environment, before aseptic operation, after body fluid exposure were 89.00%, 93.00%, 60.50%, 84.00%, 96.00%, respectively, which were significantly higher than 77.00%, 81.00%, 44.50%, 65.00%, 89.00%before the implementation (P<0.05). The hand hygiene knowledge examination and hand hygiene pass rate were (91.21±12.14) and 96.55%, as compared with (82.38± 10.25) and 75.86% before implementation (P<0.05). Conclusion PDCA cycle management in Department of Infec-tious Diseases can enhance the understanding of the medical staff of hand hygiene-related knowledge, improve hand hy-giene compliance, thereby reducing the incidence of nosocomial infection.
