Cytokines in T-cell development

The thymus provides a unique environment for the development of T cells, supporting both precursor cell proliferation and differentiation. The control of these processes is unknown but they may be mediated by cytokines, or other soluble factors, or by interactions with specific elements of the thymic stroma.
