Abstract:Ultrastructural analysis of 400 trabeculectomy specimens of glaucomatous eye revealed three types of extracellular deposits within the cribriform layer of the trabecular meshwork. One of these derives from the sheath of the subendothelial elastic-like fibres. Tissue culture and ultrahistochemical studies led to the assumption that these deposits contain glycoproteins, probably secreted by the cribriform layer cells.
