Efficacy of three dimensional osteotomy combined with mechanical alignment in total knee arthroplasty of patients with varus knee

Background:End-stage knee osteoarthritis is mainly treated by total knee arthroplasty(TKA).At present,there are few studies focused on mechanical alignment TKA(MA-TKA)and kinematic alignment(MA-TKA).Objective:To explore the short-term efficacy of MA-TKA and KA-TKA on osteoarthritis of varus knee.Methods:From June 2018 to June 2019,120 patients with osteoarthritis of varus knee were enrolled with 60 patients receiving KA-TKA and 60 patients receiving MATKA.The operation time,intraoperative blood loss,postoperative drainage volume,hospital stay,and forgotten joint score(FJS),HSS score,VAS score and knee mobility one year after operation were compared between the two groups.Results:The operation time,intraoperative blood loss and postoperative drainage volume were significantly lower in KA-TKA group than in MA-TKA group,and hospital stay was longer in KA-TKA(P<0.05).All patients were followed up,and no complications like prosthetic joint infection,loosening,dislocation and stiffness occurred during the follow-up period.At 1 year after the opera⁃tion,there were significant difference in FJS,HSS,VAS and ROM between the two groups(P<0.05).Conclusions:KA-TKA option can shorten the operation time and reduce intraoperative bleeding in treatment of osteoarthritis of varus knee,which is good for knee function of patients and pain relief,however,patients have to stay in hospital longer.
