Thrombocytopenia and spontaneous rupture of the spleen associated with infectious mononucleosis

Summary Infectious mononucleosis (IM) normally has a benign, self-limiting course. Thrombocytopenia and spontaneous rupture of the spleen are two separate complications of the illness. We describe a patient who suffered from both these complications.
