Abstract: | In a study of 10 normal subjects, administration of aspirin was shown to prevent exercise-induced increases in platelet aggregation to collagen and adrenaline. The exercise-induced rise in the plasminogen-activator content of plasma euglobulin precipitates was also reduced by aspirin, whereas rises in platelet count, factor VIII levels and decrease in partial thromboplastin time of plasma were unaffected. The prevention by aspirin of exercise induced increases in platelet aggregation, in the light of the possible involvement of platelets in thromboembolic disease, suggest that further study of the therapeutic usage of aspirin in treatment of this disease is merited. |
