Abstract: | The molecular genetic events underlying endometrial tumorigenesis areill-defined at present. We have identified a region on the short arm ofchromosome 1 which is frequently deleted in endometrial cancers. The regionof deletion has been localized to bands 1p32-33. Deletion of 1p32-33 isseen more frequently in cancers of the highly aggressive papillary seroustype than in cancers of the less-aggressive endometrioid type. These datasuggest the presence of a tumor suppressor gene on 1p32-33 which isspecifically involved in the development of endometrial cancers with pooroutcome. |
