| Abstract: | Ultrasonography demonstrated thrombus within the portal venous system in a child who presented with abdominal pain and a fever. This helped lead to a diagnosis of appendicitis complicated by ascending septic thrombophlebitis. Ultrasound of the portal vein may be of value when investigating such children with atyptical abdominal pain. |
