| Abstract: | Granulomatous mastitis is a rare, benign breast disease that can mimic carcinoma. This report describes the clinical and pathological features of two patients presenting with breast abscesses. Both patients required a drainage procedure for the abscesses before a definite diagnosis could be made. Granulomatous mastitis must also be differentiated from other known causes of granulomatous inflammation such as tuberculosis, which is common in Hong Kong. The management of granulomatous mastitis remains controversial. Surgery alone may not prevent subsequent recurrence. Nevertheless, it is important to have operative specimens examined histologically so that a patient’s prognosis can be better understood. |
