The Establishment and Practice of Sedation Program for Children in Radiologic Procedures

Objective To investigate the selection of drugs and sedating program in diagnostic and interventional procedures for children, to establish a safe effective sedation guideline with least side effect.Materials and Methods The sedation programs in 2020 children receiving diagnostic procedures and 68 children receiving interventional procedures were analyzed, based on which a safe and effective sedation guideline was summarized.Results Neither respiratory or cardiac failure nor death occurred. Four children with systemic diseases required overnight hospitalization, but no sedation complications were observed. The sedation failure in children receiving diagnostic procedures was 2.2%, while the sedation was successful in all children receiving interventional procedures.Conclusion A safe and effective sedation program can be established, providing the pediatric diagnostic and interventional practice with the greatest accuracy and reliability.
