Abstract:Our studies have shown that the method of quantitative pharmaco-electroencephalo-graphy, using digital computer period analysis of the EEG and statistical procedures in the evaluation of a new drug can: a) determine the drug's central effectiveness when given the first time in man, b) predict its clinical value, and c) predict its effective single dosage ranges. Although the scalp-recorded EEG is a less than perfect method of evaluating human behavior, our experimental studies, as well as clinical trials, have demonstrated that it is an extremely useful approach in the very early evaluation of new drugs.
