| Abstract: | The human gastrointestinal tract not only functions to absorb nutrients but also plays an important immuno- logic role during health and critical illness. A better understanding of gut barrier function is important in the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases. This article reviews the major compositions of gastrointestinal barrier and discusses its physiological mechanisms. |
