Influence of social support on uncertainty in illness of patients with bladder tumor

Objective To investigate the social support status of patients with bladder tumor and analyze its impact on their uncertainty of illness. Methods Totally 114 patients with bladder tumor were investigated with social support rate scale (SSRS) and Chinese version of mishel uncertainty in illness scale(MUIS). Results The total score of social support, subjective support and the utilization degree of social support of bladder tumor patients were significantly lower than those in the Chinese norm(t=-3.517,P<0.001;t=-2.544,P=0.011;t=-7.277,P<0.001). There were significant differences in the total score of uncertainty in illness, uncertainty, lack of information, complexity and unpredictability among patients with low, medium and high level of social support (P＜0.001). Conclusion The social support of bladder tumor patients at a moderate level, higher social support have the lower level of uncertainty in illness. Nursing staff should help to improve the level of social support of patients and the quality of life.
