Effect of silicore nasogastric tube on enteral nutrition in patients with severe stroke

Objective To explore the effect of silicore nasogastric tube on enteral nutrition in patients with severe stroke. Methods Totally 160 severe stroke patients admitted to the neurology intensive ward in year 2017 and 2018 were selected and randomly divided into a control group and an experimental group according to their admission order, each of 80. In the control group, polyurethane nasointestinal tube for enteral nutrition, while in the experimental group, silicone nasogastric tube was implanted. The plugging rate, complications and the cost of tube maintenance were compared between the two groups. Results After 28-day intervention, the plugging rate of the observation group was significantly lower than that of the control group (χ²=6.260, P=0.012), the cost of tube maintenance of the experimental group was significantly lower than that of the control group(t=25.260,P<0.001). There was no significant difference in the incidence of complications between the two groups(χ²=0.045,P=0.833). Conclusion The silicone nasogastric tube is economical and safe, can lower the plugging in the feeding process for patients with severe stroke.
