Impact of problem-oriented health education on self-care behavior and life quality of patients with temporary ileostomy

Abstract:Objective To explore the effect of problem-oriented health education on self-care behavior and life quality of patients with temporary ileostomy (TI). Methods Totally 92 TI patients admitted between June 2018 and June 2019 were selected and randomly divided into a control group(n=46) and an observation group(n=46) according to a random number table. The control group received routine health guidance, while the observation group was implemented the problem-oriented self-management. The self-care behavior, incidence of complications and life quality of the two groups were compared before and after 3-month intervention. Results After the intervention, the total score of the self-care willingness, knowledge, skills and ability of the observation group was significantly higher than those of the control group(P<0.05), while the incidence of complications of the former was significantly lower than the latter(χ2=48.470, P<0.001). Moreover, the scores of the physical symptoms, cognitive comprehension ability, social role function, social ability and emotional control ability of the observation group were significantly higher than those of control group(P<0.05). Conclusion Problem-oriented health education can improve the self-care behavior of patients with temporary ileostomy, reducing their stoma-related complications and promoting their life quality.
