Abstract:Objective To observe the effect of pregnant mice infected with Toxoplasma gondii on their generation's growth, life-span and immune functions. Methods The mid-period pregnant mice were infected with different doses of T. gondii RH strain by abdominal cavity. Post partum, the generation's body length, weight and life-span in development were observed. The intellectual development and immunity functions were detected after intervening measures were carried out according to experimental objectives. Results There was no difference in the body length among slightly infected group, seriously infected group and control group, but there was difference in their weight, life-span and intellectual development. The life-span of seriously infected group was shorter than that of lightly infected group and control group. There was significantly difference in intelligence in lightly infected group before and after intervention, the intelligence of young mice could reach normal or be improved by intervening measures. There was no change in other groups. The infection rate of seriously infected group was markedly higher than that of lightly infected group and control group after reinfection of T. gondii, and it was inversely proportional to IgG level. The young mice whose mother infected T. gondii seriously would lower its immunity function, but anti-body IgG could protect them from being infected again. Conclusion After pregnant mice infect T. gondii, its generation's weight, intelligence and immune function are lower, life-span is curtate, but there is no obviously effect on the body length of the three groups.
Keywords:Pregnant mice  Toxoplasma gondii infection  generation  development  life span  immunity function
