| Abstract: | Three "tonic-purgative" pairs (Rehmannia glutinosa-Aliisma orientate, Cornus officinalis-Paeonia suffrutiticosa, Dioscorea opposita-Poria cocos) in Liuwei Dihuang Decoction recipe were shown to decrease obviously the elevated SGPT activity induced by thioacetamide (TAA), but no inhibition of SGPT by carbon tetrachloride (CCl_4). There are differences among these three pairs and Liuwei Dihuang Decoction which was effective in lowering the elevated SGTP induced by CCl_4, TAA and prednisolone. The results indicate that whole recipe of Liuwei Dihuang Decoction possesses more potent protective action than that of any of three "tonic-purgative" paris on liver injuries in mice. Their modes of action may be mediated via different ways and remain to be further investigated. |
