Abstract: | Changes in the pancreatic gland manifested by necrosis of excretory cells and marked atrophy of insulae with the loss of beta-cells producing insulin were observed experimentally in suckling mice infected with Coxsackie B1 virus. It is suggested that the above changes of the pancreas may be a model of human diseases caused by Coxsackie viruses, including a model of development of some cases of diabetes. |
