Postoperative complications after radical resection for rectal cancer in the early period include intraoperative surgical injury , bleeding , infections , and anastomotic leakage .Moreover , long-term complications include sexual disturbance and dysfunction of defecation and urination and also stoma .These complications remain a challenge for postoperative management .More attention should be paid to preventive interventions in order to reduce the complications . Improvement of the diagnosis and treatment of post-operative complications is imperative to reduce morbidity and mortality and to improve the life quality of patients with rectal cancers .
