Abstract:Objective: To evaluate the change of quality of life for patients with advanced cancer after the hospice care was provided, and to provide a basis for implementing hospice intervention and improving the quality of life of cancer patients. Methods: Six hundred and ninety-one patients with advanced cancer accepting hospice care completed the questionnaire voluntarily. The patients’ physical symptoms, psychological stress, spiritual dimensions as well as family and social support were assessed before and after hospice care intervention, and the difference was also analyzed. Results: Before accepting hospice care, the patients presented with physical symptoms, psychological stress and spiritual injury to some degree, but the quality of family and social support was not affected obviously. After the hospice care was provided, the physical symptoms and the psychological stress were relieved remarkably, especially for the symptoms of pain. Furthermore, there had been an increase in the spiritual needs. Conclusion: The physical symptoms and psychological stress are relieved significantly and an increase in spiritual needs is largely met by implementing hospice intervention, which leads to an improved quality of life for patients with advanced cancer.
