Nursing observation for right basilic vein catheterization via subcutaneous tunnel for critical ill patient

Objective To summarize the experience of preventing catheter-related infection and lengthening ductal indwelling time regarding subcutaneous tunneled basilic vein catheterization in critical ill patient. Methods 120 critical ill patients were divided randomly into experiment group(n=60)and control group(n=60), subcutaneous tunneled right basilic vein catheterization was used in experiment group and direct right basilic vein catheterization was performed in control group. the indwelling time of catheter and rate of catheter-related infection were observed in two groups. Results The indwelling time of catheter in experiment group was obviously longer than that in control group. Conclusion Subcutaneous tunneled basilic vein catheterization in critical ill patient can effectively prevent catheter-related infection and lengthen ductal indwelling time.
