Application of Cis-diaminodichloroplatinum combined with nocardia rubra cell wall skeleton in the treatment of malignant pleural effusion: An observation of curative effect

Objective To investigate the curative effect of application of Cis-diaminodichloroplatinum（DDP） combined with nocardia rubra cell wall skeleton（N-CWS） through intrapleural injection in the treatment of malignant pleural effusion.Methods 50 cases of malignant pleural effusion were randomly divided into two groups： the therapeutic group（27 cases） and the control group（23 cases）.The therapeutic group was given DDP 60mg combined with N-CWS 400ug through intrapleural injection and the control group only DDP 60mg.The administrations were repeated after 1 week.The curative effect,survival rates and quality of life as well as toxic and side reactions were observed.Results The total effective rate and progressive rate of morbid change in the therapeutic group and the control group were 81.4% and 7.4% vs 47.8% and 34.8% respectively.The 0.5,1,1.5 and 2-year survival rates for the two groups were 92.6%,55.6%,44.5% and 7.4% vs 65.2%,52.1%,17.4% and 4.3%.The differences in the 0.5 and 1.5-year survival rates between the two groups were significant.The WBC had a marked decrease in the therapeutic group than in the control group.Conclusion DDP combined with N-CWS through intrapleural injection in the treatment of malignant pleural effusion may be a safe and effective method.
