The development of artificial liver supporting devices and technology

Artificial liver is an important organ supporting technology and a hopeful therapy for patients suffering from severe hepatitis and hepatic failure.As the liver is one of the body'most complex organs,particularly in its variety of metabolic functions, It is more challenging and full of potentiality to develop such devices.In recent years,some of these devices,including plasma exchanger,hemoperfusion materials,MARS,and bioartificial livers are used or tested in clinical setting.In this article,recent experience with such artificial livers is reviewed ,and the field's present status is examined or summarized.
