Abstract:Binocular (dichoptic) summation was studied for identical wavelengths (monochromatic combinations) and dissimilar wavelengths (bichromatic combinations) presented to each eye. For comparison, monocular summation data were obtained from the same subjects. Dichoptic bichromatic additivity failures were found to be qualitatively similar to, but more pronounced than, corresponding bichromatic monoptic additivity failures. Also, for color normals, dichoptic monochromatic summation was greatest for saturated spectral hues and least for less saturated hues.
