Abstract: | Women who cannot use hormonal contraception containing estrogen have a variety of progestin-only contraceptive methods from which to choose. Implanon is a new single-rod progestin-only contraceptive implant that is easily inserted and can remain in place for up to 3 years. It is highly effective with a rapid onset of action and an equally rapid return of fertility once removed. Counseling is important to help women decide if this method is appropriate for their needs. |
