Abstract:An immunocompromised patient with an indwelling Hickman catheter developed Mycobacterium neoaurum bacteremia. This rapidly growing mycobacterium was previously isolated from soil, dust, and water but has not been described as a human pathogen. The infection responded to therapy with cefoxitin and gentamicin. It was not necessary to remove the Hickman catheter.
