Expression of CD44v6 in Oral Squamous Cell Carcinomas

Objective To detect the expression of CD44v6 in oral squamous cell carcinomas(OSCC). The significance of CD44v6 in the differentiation, invasion and metastasis of OSCC was also evaluated. Methods Thirty|two samples of OSCC and six biopsies of normal oral mucosa were detected by immunohistochemical technique(SP method). Results CD44v6 was strongly expressed in the normal oral mucosa and adjacent non|cancerous tissue. Carcinomas expressing higher levels of CD44v6 exhibited not only poorly differentiation but also more frequent regional lymph node metastasis. Conclusion The expression of CD44v6 is closely linked to invasion and metastasis of OSCC. It is necessary to evaluate further the role of CD44v6 in diagnosis and prognosis of the oral squamous cell carcinomas.;
