Role of psychological factors in temporomandibular disorders

Temporomandibular disorders(TMD) is one of the most common diseases in craniomandibular system. The cause of TMD is complicated and often considered as the result of multi-factorial effect including psychological factors and abnormal occlusion. Although psychological factors are thought to be the main reason, it is still controversial about its role in the development and treatment of TMD. Recently, considerable successes have been achieved in etiology, dual-axis diagnosis, psychological therapy of TMD and experimental models by applying psychological effect.
