Abstract:Objective To study the relationship between macro/microelements and Intrauterine Growth Retardation. Methods Microelements were analyzed in maternal blood, cord serum and amniotic fluid of 71 gravidas during late pregnancy, which were divided into IUGR group (n = 21), normal birth weight (control group, n = 35) and macrosomia group (n=15) respectively. Results In maternal blood of IUGR group, the levels of Zn, Se, Mn, Fe, Mg, and Cr were significantly lower than that of control group (P<0. 05); the levels of Cd, Pb, and Ni were significantly higher than that of control group; Fe in macrosomia group was significantly lower than that of control group(P<0. 05); Ca, Ti, Co, and Li had no apparently difference in the three groups. In cord serum of IUGR group, the levels of Se, Mn, Cd, Fe , Cu, and Mg were significantly lower than that of control group; Pb, Ni were significantly higher than that of control group; Zn, Ca, Ti, Co, and Li had no significant difference in the three groups. In amniotic fluid of IUGR group, the levels of Zn, Se, Mn, and Fe were significantly lower than that of control group; Ca and Co had no significant difference in the three groups. Conclusion Some macro and microelements have close relationship with fetal growth. The deficiency of Zn, Se, Mn, Fe, Mg, Cu, and Cr can lead to IUGR, while excess Cd, Pb, and Ni may result in low birth weight.
