The anatomy of the saphenous nerve in the lower leg with particular reference to its relationship to the long saphenous vein

The anatomy of the saphenous nerve in the lower leg was studied in eighty patients undergoing saphenous vein aortocoronary bypass grafting. It is suggested that a knowledge of the described variations in the anatomical relationship of the saphenous nerve and vein should reduce the incidence of operative trauma to the saphenous nerve.
