| Abstract: | Mechanism of action and shortcomings of the approved proton pump inhibitors are reviewed. Advances in the design of new proton pump K(+) and S site inhibitors are presented. Design criteria incorporated into the structure of investigational proton pump inhibitors to address these drawbacks are discussed. |
