| Abstract: | Millenary populations that live at high altitude in different continents like Asia (1) and South America(8), have endured biological adaptation in very adverse environmental conditions, of which to our understanding, paradoxically, chronic hypoxia is the most tolerable. Patients with pulmonary diseases at high altitude tolerate tissue hypoxia with an arterial tension(PaO2) even as low as 30 mmHg.
