Clinical characteristics and epidemiology in 69 cases of pediatric purulent meningitis

Objective To investigate the clinical characteristics and epidemiology of pediatric purulent meningitis in recent years.Methods Sixty-nine patients with purulent meningitis were analyzed from May 2007 to May 2010 in our hospital.Results All the 69 cases of purulent meningitis mainly happened in children less than 3 years of age,and were mainly prevalent in winter and spring seasons.Imaging abnormalities was not high;blood and cerebrospinal fluid culture positive rate of pathologic examination were not high,too.Of the 24 patients with complications,clinical manifestations were repeated convulsions in 16 cases.Conclusion Major clinical manifestations are fever,headache,vomiting,twitching in most patients,so children under 3 years old with above clinical manifestation should be vigilant,and the possibility of complication is high when the patients have repeated convulsions.
