Abstract: | Twenty-five patients underwent adjunctive extrafascial hysterectomy 14-60 days following completion of external and intracavitary irradiation for bulky carcinoma of the uterine cervix. Review of the operative histopathology and correlation with subsequent patient outcomes suggests that morphologically persistent cancer is prognostically ominous and that cancer near the surgical margin is viable in the majority of instances. |
